Find info about Olympic College commencement speakers, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. Which college degrees will give you the best chances of finding employment after graduation? Some students select a major because it offers practical training that will be valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major simply because they enjoy the subject material. By sampling courses from different departments, you can get a better idea which field you are most comfortable in. The most popular college major is business administration, split evenly between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the vast majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, the fields of education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

Online courses foster faculty innovation in teaching, by requiring professors to develop new course materials. Distance education reduces the need for high-priced course textbooks, as many books are now available on Kindle, Google Books, or as shareware. If you so choose, online education gives you the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript. Alternatively, you may be able to complete online credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams (AP Exams) are offered in a variety of subjects, offering college credit for classes that you have taken. Test yourself with free practice exams, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be granted advanced placement in college.

Online Courses - MOOCs

College degree majors with high starting-salaries after graduation include physical sciences, business administration, and engineering. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Recently, MIT announced that it's open courseware platform will be available to students and instructors at no cost.

Technical Degree Programs

Which degrees will give you the best chances of landing a job after you graduate? Computer programming, business administration, and health care are among the fastest-growing job areas, according to The US Department of Labor. An associates degree is a two-year program that either results in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. Further, many varied careers are available to people who hold associates degrees. The greatest downside to an associates degrees in the job market is only that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelors degrees.

Business:

By taking some of your degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, saving money on tuition, as well as entering the job market sooner. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your present career. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, but past experience must be relevant to the job vacancy that the company needs to fill. Your resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements. Companies will conduct monthly reviews of employee performance, so seek out a mentor with the connections to help you find the most direct path to advancement.

The main challenge in getting your degree is to choose a career that you will enjoy, and can pursue for many years. The job vacancies for website designers are still increasing, as retail firms move a greater percentage of their business online. Also, as the healthcare industry relies heavily on electronic medical records, protecting patients' personal data takes priority.

Nursing:

There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but the required education is challenging. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training can take a long time to complete, based on your ability to learn, and whether you are able to attend nursing school full-time. Deciding whether to get an associates degree or a bachelors degree should depend on your career goals and budget. In fact, most students may not have the means to attend four straight years of college.

Create a Part-time Income Online

The goal here is to show you how to design a simple website that gets listed on search engines, and is able to generate a cash-flow within a few months. Creating a part-time income online is indeed possible, but it's a fair amount of work up-front. However, if you keep working on it a few hours a week, you can increase your daily earnings as your website develops. The basics are as follows:

Doing business online is one of your best options to raise extra income. Success is governed by two main factors, visitor traffic and sales conversions. How many of the right people can you attract to your site, and how many of those people can you persuade to take a given action? The easiest way to start is by opening a Wordpress blog, and monetizing with Google AdSense pay-per-click ads. You can drive targeted traffic to your website at a reasonable cost, by learning search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, and writing hundreds of pages of high-quality content. Just making a website isn't enough, if no-one can find it. You'll then need online marketing skills, and the ability to drive conversions.
